Handlist of Pre-1600 Manuscripts at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library

In 2022, I prepared a library guide for the University of Kansas Libraries, which is still in use, that includes a handlist of some 400 manuscripts at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library that are dated to 1600 or earlier: Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts: Pre-1600 Manuscripts at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library.

In addition to the handlist, the library guide includes a variety of resources on manuscript studies. The short descriptions in the handlist are created based on my first-hand examination of manuscripts and related accession materials and legacy records at the Kenneth Spencer Research Library between August 2019 and August 2022. There is an archived version of the library guide on 27 September 2022 for future consultation.

Here is a selection of manuscripts I catalogued in detail whose descriptions have been published on the online KU Libraries Catalog between 2021-2022:

Opening from Lawrence, KS, University of Kansas, Kenneth Spencer Research Library, MS A18.

Opening of the manuscript and the table of contents and the ownership inscription on the front flyleaf. Lawrence, KS, University of Kansas, Kenneth Spencer Research Library, MS C91.
